Day 3: My neighbor was sick and now on to Pilates!

Well, as it turns out, my neighbor and I didn't watch The Nanny tv afterall. I asked him in a real nice sweet high pitched voice, as high as I could manage, but he must have been sick and had to rush to the bathroom because he closed the door on me really fast and didn't even have time to reschedule our plans.

So I think that I'll let that neighbor get over his illness before I invite him over to watch The Nanny again because really, when I get to thinking about it, I don't want to watch The Nanny with someone who is going to be sick and maybe even get me sick, because in the end, isn't health the most important thing?

So I was telling my problem to the man bagging my groceries at the Stop and Shop and he seemed to think it was a good idea for me to go to a class. He said people at classes were always looking to meet friends, and so now I think the most important thing for me to do is to go down to the YWCA and sign myself up for a class. I think it might be a class called, "Pilates" which looks like you should call it "pilots" and I did, but I guess that is just the funny way to pronounce it because the lady on the phone laughed when I said it that way. She called it like it was French or something and said, "Pah-LAH-tease". So I might pretend I'm French and call it that too when I call back to sign up for my new best friend class. But I really think saying it the French way is funnier than saying it the regular way.

love,
Orchard P. Dirk

The lady on the phone did pronounce pilates the right way. It is not some funny french way. it's just how you say it. while i do admire your ability to put yourself out there and try to connect with others, people who go to pilates classes are there to work out and get in shape, not meet a best friend. is this a real blog?

This is crazy! Of course, this is a real blog! I used to date Orchard and she's the hottest of the hot. Yeah, sure, she might be a little neurotic at times, but I tell you, ... that voice! There's no one quite like her!

wow, wow, wow!! so I went to check my blog because that's how I spend most of my day--just checking to see if anyone has posted a comment and usually there is no one and then I just check again, because hey, a lot could happen in 30 seconds, and I mean a lot. Well, I just went away to do some stuff and returned and now see all these comments from my new best friends!

Franklin, I don't know what "bay area" means, but if it means you want to go swimming with me and be my best friend, then count me in!

In spanish we pronounce "Pilates" 'Pee-laaah-Tess'... or something like that.

(Oh, I hope your neighbor was sick, and wasn't rude or creeped out by a pretty girl's unusual friendliness)

I must confess, Orchard, that I've done something similar to what you're doing (that I've read so far)... though I haven't blogged it. I don't know if I should create an alter blogger persona and blog about it...

Orchard, where do you live in? (After I post this comment, I'll thoroghly check your profile... lol) I live in a somewhat big city in Mexico. Some people say that Monterrey is a bit too 'americanized' (perhaps too big, overpopulated and people may be distant or unfriendly).

What made me start this similar project was the following fact:

People seldom talk in the school bus that I take. (Everyone just sits there, politely... and unless you know someone, you get to talk to them... but even so, they may be too busy or try to do homework in the bus). Now, there are several routes, since ITESM is a relatively large univ. But it really made me sad to watch people just staring out of a window when they could be meeting someone interesting.

I've been discovering for the past 6 or 7 months the art of conversation.

Lucky for me, being locked on a bus is somewhat of an incentive for people to talk.

Oh well... I think it's about bed time for me. I'm happy that you're on a great quest for friends.

I'm really interested in knowing more about you. Can I be your friend? Too bad we live far away..., I would love having a friendly neighbor.

Unfriendly neighbors... now THAT's another story... Hope to hear from you soon, thanks for stopping by my blog.

Well, I certainly did not know how Pilates was pronounced in Spanish, but if I do decide to take that course again, then maybe I will just pronounce it that way instead.

If you have done something similar to what I have done, Rolandog, then why not start a blog about it? Or why not share on my blog here where people are also looking to know they have a community of others who act in a similar way?

That is interesting that people don't talk on a schoolbus, but I have found a similar experience. I always try to reach out and make a friend or two, but that is not always met with the success that a girl like me is looking for. But I have also learned that it is true that sometimes people just need a break and to look out at the beautiful city your school is in in Mexico, and just sort of breathe that sweet city air and catch up on homework. Those people that I mention now are the ones that might appreciate nature and quiet time and finishing homework, but still, they are missing out on that interaction between strangers that could blossum into the best friendship of your life, and how would they know what they missed?

I am so pleased to learn some things about you, and your profile was very interesting. You are probably a very smart person, even though I could not find the Orchard link on your website. I am not sure what other questions about me have not been answered in my profile, but I live in the great state of New York that has snow but no hurricanes or volcanoes.

And I would be more than honored to be your friend, and that just means so much to me. I wish that you could be my neighbor too and then I would bake lemon cookies or peppermint filled cookies from my Frugal Gourmet cookbook and bring them over in a nice neat little tin that even has room for a photograph on it.

Or why not share on my blog here where people are also looking to know they have a community of others who act in a similar way?Well, I could transform this other blog I have (in which I haven't posted much... but just a short story)... and gradually make stories about my experiences.

But I have also learned that it is true that sometimes people just need a break and to look out at the beautiful city your school is in in Mexico, and just sort of breathe that sweet city air and catch up on homework.Well, I kind of have to admit that San Pedro is a pretty city. (lol, wanted to say 'pretty shitty city'). There are a lot of mountains in the area and we get a cool view.

Those people that I mention now are the ones that might appreciate nature and quiet time and finishing homework, but still, they are missing out on that interaction between strangers that could blossum into the best friendship of your life, and how would they know what they missed?Well, the sight is cool. But to stare at it every morning, for... say... 1 month in a row? 1 year? 2?
ITESM is mainly a 4.5 year college... so for sanity's sake... new friends should keep 'em sane =)

even though I could not find the Orchard link on your website. Its in my blog's side-bar (to the right of your screen), click on 'Friends', and you're #3... (no particular order... I try inserting links in random lines, but I try giving more piority to blogs I read frequently).

I also decided to post about some long comments I did the day I found your blog (hence, "That's some quality shit, son" quote from Scary Movie)...

I am not sure what other questions about me have not been answered in my profileOh, you should see my profiles section... and it's missing twice as many profiles I've got laying around the net.

but I live in the great state of New York that has snow but no hurricanes or volcanoes. Guess what's my favorite song performed by Frank Sinatra (written by John Kander & Fred Ebb).

And I would be more than honored to be your friend, and that just means so much to me.w00t!11 (In 1337 5p34k it means "yay!"). =)

I wish that you could be my neighbor too and then I would bake lemon cookies or peppermint filled cookies from my Frugal Gourmet cookbook and bring them over in a nice neat little tin that even has room for a photograph on it.Oh you're a perfect neighbor!! Now you got me drooling and I'm supposed to go early to bed!

Well, I hope that one day I get a job offer up there, in New York and ... *maaaaybe*... I'll try to be your neighbor... but if I fail, then I'd be sleeping in a tent outside your house. LOL.

Well, I looked at your novel and posted on that site, but just wanted to say here, as well, that you truly have a talent for the novels. The view you showed me on your website was very pretty and it made me wish that I lived in a place that were warmer than 18 degrees F on a good day.

Yes, some people prefer to go insane looking at the same view every day for 4.5 years, rather than make a friend, but I just think that they are frightened, as I have been in the past, but that this blog is helping me overcome.

Unfortunately, I could not see what "long" linked to in your comment here, but I can only imagine it would be as inspiring as a reindeer on Christmas eve. But most importantly, I am pleased you are excited to pretend you are my neighbor and that you like a song that is written by a person who writes about New York, which is the state I live in, and while I do like tents and neighbors, you might get cold when the weather is only 2 degrees F, but then I guess that is what some people like.

Thanks. I appreciate it.

And indeed... people can be scared of starting a new friendship. But then again, we're all humans. And if we all have something in common... (be it using a same service, going to the same school, living the same city, timezone, or side of the world)... then might as well get along. =)

correct link to post about long commentsSorry Orchard. I think I typed a 'typo' in the previous link..

I also use a service called audioscrobbler (it uses winamp)...

It provides statistics about your favorite songs.

Although my favorite artist is Estatic Fear or Theatre of Tragedy, I also enjoy listening to oldies... and classical music.

Thank you for putting up the link to your site where you list the things that you are interested in and music you like. It is good to know what a fellow best blogger friend likes and I hope someday to even increase in rank for your Friendship ranking.

My best friend is a little song that goes something like this:

Friendship, Friendship
Just the perfect blendship
When other friendships have been forgot
Ours will still be hot
La de da de da de da da da

That is a song I once saw a robot and scholar troll sing in a children's theater production and they even did a little handtrick when singing it, and it has always stayed with me over time.
